CLIENT: Official launch event for the book Drop Dead by Lorna Poplak
PROJECT: Themed gift basket to be given as a door prize
For the official launch of the book Drop Dead: A Horrible History of Hanging in Canada by Lorna Poplak, I created a themed gift basket to be handed out as a door prize at the event.
I looked to the design of the book cover as well as hangmen's gallows for visual inspiration. In addition to a palette of black and red pulled from the book's cover, I wanted to include the textures of wood and rope — wood to reflect rustic gallows structures, and rope like in a hangman's noose.
The gift items were arranged in a wooden crate, which had a rustic look reminiscent of gallows, and then everything was packaged in clear cellophane. This allowed for the contents to be visible for display at the event.
Given the subject matter of Poplak's book and the bold cover imagery, it seemed only natural to use a hangman's noose as the main decoration for the basket. An oversized red satin bow adds a finishing touch.
